4. When providing data is required
Data marked as required during checkout or account creation is necessary to provide the requested service or conclude and perform the purchase agreement. If you do not provide it, we may be unable to create the account, accept the order, deliver Products or respond to the request. Newsletter subscriptions and non-essential cookies are optional.
5. Who receives your data?
We share personal data only where necessary with categories of recipients such as:
- hosting, webshop, security, email and customer-support service providers;
- Dutch wholesale and fulfilment partners that prepare or dispatch orders for RationPoint;
- delivery companies, including PostNL where applicable;
- payment providers, including Mollie where it processes the selected payment method;
- professional advisers, insurers, auditors and authorities where required;
- Trustpilot, where its review widget or review-invitation service is used; and
- Google, where Google Maps or reCAPTCHA is loaded, subject to the applicable consent requirements.
Service providers may process data only for the agreed service and under appropriate contractual and security requirements. Some recipients, including payment providers and delivery companies, may also act as independent controllers for their own legally defined purposes. Their own privacy notices then apply.
6. International transfers
We prefer service providers that process data in the European Economic Area. If a provider processes personal data outside the EEA, we use an applicable legal transfer mechanism, such as an adequacy decision or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, together with supplementary safeguards where required. You may contact us for further information about the safeguards applicable to a particular transfer.
7. Retention
We do not keep personal data longer than necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, unless a longer period is required by law.
- Order, invoice and core accounting records are generally retained for seven years to meet Dutch tax-administration requirements. Longer periods may apply to transactions covered by a specific statutory scheme.
- Customer accounts are retained while active. We periodically remove or anonymise inactive account data unless it remains necessary for orders, claims, fraud prevention or legal duties.
- Customer-service and complaint records are normally retained for up to two years after the matter is closed, or longer where reasonably needed for a claim, recall or legal obligation.
- Newsletter data is retained until you unsubscribe or we stop using the list, subject to a minimal suppression record to respect your opt-out.
- Cookie and analytics retention periods are described in our Cookie Policy and may also be shown in the cookie-preference centre.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
We use necessary technologies for functions such as security, checkout, shopping baskets and account sessions. Optional analytics, marketing and external-media technologies are used only after the required consent. See our Cookie Policy for details and for information about changing your choice.
9. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, loss and misuse. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Please protect your account credentials and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use.
10. Your privacy rights
Subject to the conditions in the GDPR, you may:
- request access to your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request deletion or restriction of processing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests or to direct marketing;
- request data portability where applicable;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing performed before withdrawal; and
- lodge a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or another competent supervisory authority.
To exercise a right, email [email protected]. We may request proportionate information to verify your identity. We normally respond within one month, subject to any extension permitted by law.
11. Automated decision-making
We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you solely through automated processing. Payment or fraud providers may perform automated risk checks under their own responsibility; contact us if an order is affected and you want a human review.
12. Children
RationPoint is not directed at children and we do not knowingly ask children to create accounts or place orders. If you believe a child has provided personal data without appropriate authorisation, please contact us.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our processing or applicable requirements change. The latest version is published on this page with its update date. Material changes will be highlighted where appropriate.
